About Roots

Roots Community Singers sing and perform a wide range of English and World Folk music.
Mainly acappella, (singing without musical accompaniment), it is open to all comers irrespective of ability, (or lack of it!).  You do not have to be able to read music and will not be asked to sing solo or perform in public unless you wish.

Here's some video which will give you an idea of what we do!

We’re very fortunate to have Julie Holland as our leader.  Julie is a very experienced musician who sings and writes her own songs and performs with her band Calling Time.

She has run many singing workshops and helped steer Roots out of lockdown to an excellent performance at the National Forest Timber festival.
Well not unless you’re up for it!  No one will be forced to go public if this is not their bag!  It is more important that you enjoy singing with us than becoming stressed out through stepping into the limelight!
Having said that, our choir runs in monthly "blocks."  Depending on time of year and interest, each block may end with a performance.
